Disneyland Winter Trip - Days 3 & 4

Sorry for the delay in posting pictures but this mom is tired by the time we get home after an entire day at the park. Today was our last full day at the park and tomorrow we will be leaving the happiest place on Earth and hope we can take some of that happiness home with us. While it has not been absolutely relaxing, it has been fun to be here with the kiddos. I will be posting more pictures and videos once we make it home and I find sometime to do so. Thanks for following our adventure at Disneyland.

So far the kids (the parents & Gma Arb) are enjoying everything even the chilly weather...but we have wondered if we are visiting somewhere up north instead of Southern California.

Wednesday 9-30

Sorry, I was unable to continue my blog writing while in Mexico but I'm hoping to be able to remember and share with you our adventures.

Today we spent the entire day at my aunt's house which was nice. I had a "torta de cochinita" for breakfast and my fave chocolate milk drink, "Bevi." My father was invited over for lunch and I must say I enjoyed the visit. It had been a long, long time since we've actually sat on the same table and talked. And the meal we shared was absolutely delicious, it's called "Arroz a la tumbada" which is rice soup with seafood, yeah I love seafood and when I'm down here I try to get my fill of it. We were able to catch up and he shared experiences of me as a baby and memories of him and my mom. It was actually funny to hear things they did.
He really liked spending time with Alejandra, anytime he got a chance he would hold her...I was glad he was able to and hope he can meet Benjamin also. And I'm amazed at how many features Alejandra has of him and the family. Funny how the genes work.

We took a nap (which is almost tradition here). And then went out to visit my uncle Beto, aunt Yola and my cousins Yudi & Mel. Our outings are usually late, in Las Vegas by 9pm I'm sitting in front of the TV watching shows and trying to unwind from a crazy day with my kids. Here we're either barely leaving the house to go somewhere or we're in the middle of dinner, I actually like the schedule.

We had dinner at their house, "salbutes" y "panuchos," which are very traditional from this state and are very, very yummy. It's one of the meals I miss most from here and although they're very fattening they're worth the sacrifice. :) We chatted for a while at the kitchen table, another thing I love to do when we're here. It seems that the best times are spent around the dinner table/kitchen. We actually didn't stay out late, which is not usual, but we were tired. The heat/humidity is exhausting especially if you're not used to it and we're definitely not.

I enjoyed the day and Alejandra just seems to enjoy everyone's arms. She's such a drama queen and knows how to convince aunt Nena to pick her up when she wants to be held, which is almost every minute of the day. Not good!!!

Monday 9-30 & Tuesday 10-1

Monday
We visited downtown Merida. That activity is usually on our itinerary when we come here since it is where you find the traditional stuff. I was in search of children´s clothing for my babies. I found a dress for Alex but was unable to find something for Ben, but I still have a few days to search for something. It was rather hot and Alejandra was not liking it at all. I just put up with it, it´s part of being here and you gotta enjoy it even with the humidity level and exhausting heat. We were able to see a traditional group of dancers do their thing in front of the cathedral. For breakfast we ate Tortas de Cochinita, which is a traditional dish here in Merida...YUMM-O! hahaha. Lunch consisted of chinese food which was also very good but of course not as yummy as all the other I´ve already eaten, still it tasted very, very good.

The rest of the day we just spent it at the house chillin´ and getting stuff ready to travel the following day to Calkini, which is where my family lives. For dinner we had tamales...holy cow...I ate way too many I think. All the weight I started to loose before I left home I have gained and probably doubled, oh well, I´ll just have to work xtra hard when I get back. Half-marathon here I come!!!

Tuesday 10-1
We traveled to Calkini, Campeche today. We were invited to lunch at one of my cousin´s house, well it was actually at my aunt´s house but we were celebrating my cousin´s birthday. My aunt made Meshi which I had never had and actually really liked. It´s not a traditional dish from here but from somewhere in the Middle East. I love eating with my family because we get there and have "appetizers" and chat for a while before we even touch the main dish, then after we all eat we sit around the table and talk. I hope that I can teach my children that...I like spending time talking and laughing about nothing around the dinner table. Everyone loves Alejandra, I´m actually able to eat and enjoy my meals because there are so many arms that want to hold her. She doesn´t mind it at all and I´m probably going to hate it when I get back. She even got to lay down on the hammack for a bit, I took some cute pics of her on it.

The rest of the afternoon we spent it at the house relaxing. The heat/humidity makes you really, really tired especially if you´re not used to it. In the afternoon my cousin Yudi showed up which was a surprise to me, I wasn´t expecting to see her until thursday and she managed to make it there earlier than planned to be able to spend more time with us. I was super excited to see her...she´s one of my fave cousins and always enjoy spending time with her. She took me out to get yummy coconut ice cream and in the process we almost got a ticket...yeah, never heard of that here in Mexico. She drives a moped (not sure if that´s how you spell it) but anyway, the law is that both the driver and passenger wear a helmet and I wasn´t wearing one so at one of the stop lights the officer approached us and told us that we both needed to wear a helmet. Of course we told him that we weren´t from around there and that we were just going around the corner and he let us go...thank goodness, I was a bit nervous!

In the evening I went out with her and her brother to have dinner which consisted of tacos of cow head (I know...not very appealing for many of you but I love them). We watched a concert of a group at the city park...I enjoyed watching the singers danced...they were cuban/mexican...the boys sure knew how to move...geez! After that we stayed at the park until 1 am. This town is so small and safe that you can stay out at the park or on the streets til the next morning and nothing happens to you. I think that´s one of the reasons I like being there and when I´m out with the cousins and friends I have so much fun.

Trip to Mexico (Saturday 9-26 & Sunday 9-27)

Saturday
Today we traveled to Calkini, Campeche from Merida, Yucatan which is about an hour drive (sort of like it is from LV to Logandale). Since our visit was a surprise to everyone it was kinda fun and nerve wrecking showing up at the party (my niece´s & aunt´s b-day & family reunion).

Seeing everyone´s faces when they saw us was great. No one imagined we would show up, especially when it isn´t vacation time. I was so happy to see my uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews & even my father. For some reason this time I was very emotional about the whole ordeal, not sure why but all my weird emotions were worth it at the end. At last I was here with everyone and was enjoying every second of it.

We got there and immediately cooked the meal. Of course they already had most of it done but my mom obviously couldn´t be without cooking her specialty (carne asada and also ribs with a special family recipe) YUMM-O! ... *Beware, I will be using this word often since all I do is eat when I´m down here and all I eat is delicious food.*

Most of our day was spent at my cousin´s house where the party was being held and I had so much fun. We just ate, told jokes and enjoyed each other´s company all afternoon. I wish I had pictures to show you but unfortunately I don´t...you will all just have to wait til I get back to see them.

Alex also enjoyed it but I don´t think she´s enjoying the heat too much, she gets kind of mad midday and starts fussing but I try to get her in the room with AC and make her go to sleep which she fights until she can´t stay up any longer. Everyone is loving her and she is being held a lot (her grandfather even held her, yeah I was shocked!) which I know is going to kill me when we get back...oh well!

Sunday
Easy day...we got up late, had breakfast at my aunt´s (where we´re staying) and around 1pm we headed over to another aunt´s house to have lunch with them. See all we do here is eat, eat, eat! :)

We headed back to Merida just in time to head out again. My cousin Tanya had a concert at one of the small towns in Yucatan (Motul). She plays the percussions in the Orquesta Sinfonica de Yucatan and we had to attend the concert. I hadn´t heard play in a while... it was really good! I enjoyed but it also made miss my dancing years....sooooo much! While I was there I kept thinking of how much talent there is in my family and how music runs through our blood, so grateful for that!

That was about all we did today. Just enjoyed a cultural and relaxing day with my aunt and cousin.

Girl´s trip to Mexico 2009

I apologize because there will be a lack of picture on the upcoming posts but I figure I could write down our experiences during our visit in Merida.

We traveled from Las Vegas to Merida yesterday...no major events during our travel, except we almost lost our flight from LV to Houston. Yeah, that was very embarrassing as we got to the gate and the doors were already closed, they had to open them for us and we had to walk through the entire plane while everyone just watched us...I wanted to die but at least we made it. We made it to Merida and so did most of our luggage, as we went to pick them all up we came across one of them and were in disbelief. The suitcase was shattered, this particular suitcase is made of that hard material which I´m not sure what´s called but as we grabbed it, all the edges of it came off and when my mom tried to grab the handle to pull it, it came off completely. We couldn´t do anything but laugh. We then were approached by one of the continental ladies and were asked to come to the airline window to be reimbursed for it. We had to choose between a new suitcase or a $50 voucher good towads a ticket. So I chose the voucher, maybe I wanna make a trip later on and that may just pay for 1/2 of it, right?
So after all of that we came home (this was about 10:30 pm), dropped our luggage at my aunt´s house and headed out to eat dinner...yep dinner at 11:00 pm. Gotta love Mexico!!!! What did we eat? Tacos al pastor....YUMM-O!! So we got home at around 12 am and crashed, Alex was even up that late, the poor girl...she was pretty grouchy!

Today has been uneventful, we just visited the pediatrician as Alex´s eye started getting nasty while we traveled yesterday but got better this morning but I still wanted to take her to the doc to make sure she wasn´t coming down with anything. She got checked and she´s OK, just has to use drops for a week to help her eye which doesn´t even look bad at all.

The rest of the day we stayed at my aunt´s and went out to the grocery store to get ingredients for the food my mom is making for our family reunion tomorrow...I´m so excited to see everyone.

I´m doing great although I´m getting anxious because I haven´t ran the last couple of days and don´t want to loose my rhythm, I´m just nervous to go run by myself and get chased by a dog...yeah, not worried about a human but a darn dog!! They can be nasty out here. :)

Alejandra is doing great, she napped quite a bit today and on a hammack...I think she liked that. The humidity/heat doesn´t seem to be bothering but it sure is bothering my mom...haha! I´m just enjoying every minute I have here but I won´t lie that once in a while I´m annoyed by the humidity also but I can´t complain. I´m in Mexico surrounded by my family and enjoying the food. Yeah all I do is talk about what we´re going to eat next....better start running soon!!!

Benjamin turned TWO on May 22nd...I cannot believe he's 2, where have these past 2 years gone. My baby is now a toddler but forever will be MY baby. I decided against having a big party this year and just had dinner with the familia, I did have a cake made for him, what's a birthday without a cake? He loves Wow, Wow, Wubbzy (Nickelodeon) so I bought themed decorations, he was so excited to come out of his room and see the HAPPY BIRTHDAY sign, he just kept pointing at it. As always, "Lita" made dinner and it was delish...of course, when isn't it delicious? She is the greatest cook ever, now if I could just get some of her skills! :) I'm getting there, slowly but surely. So here are some pics of THE day.

I cannot believe I celebrated my last twenties birthday...I am going to be 30 next year, 30!!! My family treated me to a nice dinner at Cheesecake Factory. I actually had a wonderful birthday and really enjoyed being able to be with my family.

We were invited by one of Brad's co-worker to participate in a walk for the Make-A-Wish foundation, we were actually pretty excited to attend and were glad we did. We had fun and hope to attend next year and hopefully do the 5 mile run.

Benjamin attended a birthday party a while back and returned with his 1st Ring Pop, oh he was soooo excited when we gave it to him and he just sat there and enjoyed it.
Benjamin fue a una fiesta el otro dia y regreso con su 1er dulce (Ring Pop), estaba tan emocionado cuando se lo dimos que se sento a disfrutarlo.

Benjamin has this stuffed bull at Abuela's house and the other day he came running out of the room, grabbed my hand and dragged me to the bedroom pointing to his bull and the hat that were sitting on top of the TV. I set them both down and he quickly put the hat on and jumped on the bull. I was shocked, where did this kid learn this? We are assuming he watched it on TV and suddenly remembered. Not only does he like riding 4-wheelers but now I have to worry about bull riding...ay, ay, ay! A few days later he found his dad's boots...yep, I think he has some cowboy blood in him. Not much I can do about that.

Benjamin tiene un torito de peluche y su sombrero de vaquero en casa de su abuelita y un dia que estabamos visitandola salio corriendo del cuarto, me agarro la mano y me llevo al cuarto donde empezo a apuntar hacia el toro y el sombrero q estaban arriba de la TV. Los baje y enseguida agarro el sombrero se lo puso y se monto en el toro. Me quede sorprendida, donde aprencio esto? Creemos que lo vio en la tele y de repente se acordo. No solo le gustan las motos pero ahora tambien me tengo que preocupar por las montadas a toros...ay, ay, ay! Dias despues encontro las botas vaqueras de su papa...ni modo, trae sangre de vaquero!

One morning Benjamin awoke with the wildest hairdo ever. I knew his hair was getting long and needed a haircut but never thought it was this bad! I took him to get a haircut on friday and he now looks so handsome (no pics have been taken with this new haircut).

Una manana Benjamin se levanto super despeinado. Yo ya sabia que necesitaba un corte pero nunca pense que estuviera tan largo su pelo. Lo lleve a que le cortaran el pelo la semana pasada y ahora se ve super guapo con su nuevo corte (aun no hay fotos de el con su nuevo look).

Brad put Benjamin in his crib for a time out and suddenly he stopped crying...to our surprise he was walking around in his room. We decided to put him back in the crib the other day to see how he had gotten out of it...this is the evidence.

El otro dia Brad castigo a Benjamin metiendolo a su cuna cuando de repente dejo de llorar...cuando entramos a su cuarto nos sorprendimos al verlo caminando fuera de la cuna. Decidimos unos dias despues meterlo para ver como se habia salido...esta es la evidencia.

On January 10th my mom had another birthday so we all went out to dinner at Macaroni Grill (one of our favorite restaurants).

El 10 de Enero fue el cumple de mi mama y salimos a cenar a uno de nuestros restaurantes de comida italiana favorito.

Instead of having a whole crew of employees come clapping and singing to the birtday person, our waitress sang happy birthday opera style...she was really good!

My aunt Nena and cousin Tanya came up to visit us (Dec. 26th - Jan 3rd) from Mexico. We were so excited to see them and I was especially happy that they were able to come up and spend New Year's eve with us as it is my favorite holiday of the year.

The girls went up to St. George on a shopping trip and to show my aunt & cousin where Brad and I got married. On our way up we stopped at the Gorge for them to take pics, yeah scary trying to find a spot to pull over and scary trying to beat traffic to get back on the freeway.

December 31st - Jan 1st

We welcomed the 2009 at my mom's house with a nice dinner. Unfortunately I wasn't able to eat my favorite dish (green spaghetti) because it was too spicy and I am breastfeeding...so sad! It was a good evening but this year for some reason felt quite a bit different that past years and I was feeling very sad and at the same time extremly happy to have my aunt and cousin with us. I didn't even do my regular traditions of the evening except for lighting fireworks.

Esperamos la llegada del 2009 en Logandale con mi mama que como cada anio hizo su cena de anio nuevo. Desafortunadamente no pude comer mi platillo favorito (spaghetti verde) puesto que estaba muy picoso y yo le estoy dando leche a la bb...que triste! Fue una buena noche pero este anio por alguna razon me senti diferente que en anios pasados y estaba algo triste pero a la vez super feliz de tener a mi tia y prima con nosotras. Ni siquiera segui muchas de las tradiciones de la noche...solo quemamos cohetes y hasta eso fue ligero!

We spent Christmas Eve in Logandale with Abuela Domi, Gma & Gpa Marshall. We had a very tasty dinner (Honeybaked ham, Sweet potato salad - my fave!, Lima Beans, Green Jello & Rolls). It was a good evening!

*Estuvimos en Logandale con Abuela Domi, Abuelos Gary y Vikki. Disfrutamos de una rica cena (Jamon, Ensalada de camote - mi favorita!, Habas, Ensalada de gelatina y pan). Nos la pasamos muy bien.

This year Gma Marshall got these "Christmas Crackers" for us to open. This will be a tradition that we will follow for years to come. These packages (which are traditional in UK) contain little gifts and a crown that we all wore during dinner. Brad was the one that had the best picture out of all of us.

I have enjoyed many Christmas mornings but never enjoyed it as much as now. Seeing my baby's extremely happy face was worth so much more than anything. I am sure looking forward to the many Christmas mornings we are all going to share.

We were able to put up our Christmas tree right before Alex was born, of course I hadn't had time to create a post for it until now. I love our tree and hope to eventually add a nativity set similar to the one I always saw when I was a kid, my mom did such a great job and I would love to continue with that tradition.

This is Alejandra's crib. She gets to sleep in our room for the first few months of her life and until she's able to sleep through the night. It was made for Brad by his Grandpa Arb about 29 years ago and it still is in great condition. We hope that it can be handed down to our grandchildren when the time comes. Traducción: Esta es la cuna de Alejandra. Dormira en nuestro cuarto sus primeros meses de vida y hasta que pueda dormir por las noches. As it is now tradition we went out to Logandale for Halloween and took Benjamin to the Trunk-o-Treat at the church accompanied by Gma & Gpa Marshall and Uncle Spero. Benjamin was not into asking for candy, which in a way is good! :) Maybe next year he'll be more interested. But, although he wasn't into the whole Halloween thing he sure looked cute!

Como es tradicion nos fuimos a Logandale para celebrar Halloween y llevamos a Benjamin a pedir dulces a la iglesia donde va mucha gente y decora sus carros. Nos acompanaron los abuelos Marshall y Tio Spero. Benjamin no mostro mucho interes en pedir dulce, que por un lado esta bien! :) Quizas el proximo anio este mas interesado en todo el asunto. Pero, aunque no estaba tan emocionado por la tradicion de Halloween se veia super bien mi vaquerito!

It's not Thanksgiving but....

I know we're about a month away from Thanksgiving but I felt compelled to write down how grateful I am for my life. I was watching TLC this morning and heard an emotional dad speak about the birth of their second child and how the process could be taken for granted the second time around but that it is a blessing and a privilege to have children and bring them happiness. I started to get emotional and started to think about my life...

I am grateful that Heavenly Father has trusted and blessed me with Benjamin and now Alejandra. I know I am not a perfect mother and I'm scared of what lies ahead,but, it is my goal to raise them to the best of my ability. I hope they grow to be strong individuals with set goals, standards and morals. I am sure time is going to fly by and I wanna enjoy every moment I have with them, good or bad. I hope that when they are mature individuals they are grateful for all they have lived. I hope that they always know how much I love them.

I am grateful for my husband. I am sure I have driven him crazy so many times but he has stayed beside me even through hard times. I am thankful that he's willing to work so hard for our family and that I am able to stay home to take care of our kids. I love that he makes me laugh all the time, even when I don't feel like smiling or laughing, he still tries. He's my best friend and I love him more than I had ever thought I could love someone.

I am grateful for my mom. I love her so much and I hope she knows that. She's always there for me and willing to help through thick and thin. We've been through so much together and we have had our differences many, many times but we continue to move forward. I admire her strength and her willingness to put everyone else first unconditionally. She's so good with Benjamin and I am sure she's going to be great with Alejandra. I hope my children love her as much as I do.

I am grateful for my 2nd parents. I will never ever forget all they've done for me and my mom. Even though I don't carry their blood they have taken me in and loved me as if I was their child. I am grateful for their support and their great example. I am extremely grateful for the love they have for my children and it is crazy to see how much Benjamin already loves them. They will always be Grammy Vikki and Grandpa Gary.

I am grateful for my in-laws. I know that having a new person come into their family can be weird and at times difficult and even more when she is from a different culture, but, they've been so loving and patient with me. They are always making sure I'm comfortable when I am around them. I hope they can also have a close relationship with their grandchildren even if they are so far away from us.

Life has been great and there's still a lot more to live. I hope I can always be a good or even better wife, mother, daughter and friend. At times I struggle but only hope that Heavenly Father gives me the humility, strength, and courage to continue moving forward.

This was taken a while back but I just hadn't gotten around to uploading it to our site. Benjamin loves bikes and now even if you're driving around town in the car and he sees or hears a bike go by he immediately starts moving his hands like he's holding onto the bike's handlebars and says "Vroom, vroom". I can only imagine how he is going to be 5 or 6 years from now...I better start saving in case of constant hospital visits.

Six years ago today we were sealed at the St. George Temple and enjoyed a wonderful reception with friends and family. To celebrate we went out to a nice dinner last night. My mom came in and watched Benjamin so we could go out without any worries.

Hace 6 anios Brad y yo nos casamos y disfrutamos de una amena recepcion con amigos y familiares. Para celebrar nuestro aniversario decidimos ir a cenar a un restaurant del hotel Mandalay Bay.

*Our appetizer (Siberian Nachos - wonton chips, smoked salmon, wasabi cream, chives, wasabi tobiko, citron caviar). These were so yummy...Brad doesn't like seafood or anything weird but he really liked them!

**Aperitivo (Nachos Siberianos - salmon ahumado, crema de wasabi, caviar citron). Estuvieron riquisimos y eso que a Brad no le gustan los mariscos ni nada extrano pero le encantaron.

*Our dessert(Bananas Foster Cheesecake - banana cheesecake, toasted coconut ice cream, caramelized bananas, caramel-rum chocolate sauce). A good ending to a wonderful dinner.

**Postre (Pay de queso y platano con helado de coco tostado y salsa de chocolate y ron). Un buen final para una maravillosa cena.

We had a good time even though it was just dinner, something different and we were able to be alone for a couple of hours. I'm so grateful for the good and bad that we've had these past 6 years and look forward to the many more to come. For our next anniversary there will be 4 of us in our humble home, how exciting!

La pasamos bien aunque solo hay sido una cena, fue diferente y pudimos estar solos por un par de horas. Estoy tan agradecida por lo bueno y lo malo que ha habido durante nuestro matrimonio y espero vengan aun mas anios juntos. Para nuestro proximo aniversario seremos 4 en la familia, que emocion!

*During our trips back and forth from town to town I had to find stuff to entertain Benjamin and on this occassion his new hat was the entertainment.

*We took Benjamin to the park to kill time while my aunt was at the bank. As you can see there were lots of pigeons there and though I thought Benjamin was going to be terrified of them, he did the contrary, he just enjoyed himself. He's my mini dare devil.

Hey everybody...well, it´s been a week and I´ve survived so far! I love being down here, it´s nice to see my family and friends.

Our plane ride was good, no issues with Benjamin except for having a diaper blow out during our layover in Houston. Yeah! Not fun! I wasn´t prepared with an extra pair of clothes so I had to wash what he had at the airport, it wasn´t too bad and I had Shout wipes with me so that helped A LOT!

I won´t say it has been all fine and dandy with Benjamin because it really hasn´t. This is not a relaxing vacation to say the least, he´s just WILD!!! I don´t know if it´s the environment or what but he is non-stop from 7 am til 8 pm with a couple of naps during the day.

I had warned my family of how active he was but I think they thought I was exagerating, they now agree with me. I try to keep him under control but I get so tired. We hired a nanny for a couple of days but she is young and is not as extrict as I am with him but at least she can watch him while I´m doing something else.

Bathing him is a chore, it is like you flip a switch and he goes wacko. The 1st night I tried bathing him, oh my! I don´t think he got a full bath `cause there was water everywhere and he was just jumping all over the place. He seems to be calming down now (thank goodness!). He loves the water even little tiny puddles of water he sees on the street, yuck! Keeping him clean down here is a challenge!

My family has already told me taht I need to relax and let him do stuff but it´s so hard for me since I don´t want him to break anything or for anyone to dislike him. I am starting to understand that he´s still very young and wants to explore his surroundings so I try to ignore a few things he does and let him be. He seems to be enjoying it and luckily he hasn´t gotten sick at all.

I am the one that got sick with a cold but seem to be getting better now, thank goodness! I hate being on vacation and being sick on top of being pregnant! Other than that I am good, have eaten what I´ve been wanting for so long and can´t get up there and still have quite a few things to eat.

We are heading to the zoo today and the beach tomorrow. He has experienced a party, a tricycle ride and an aquarium so far. I have been taking pictures of him but it´s hard to upload them so you will all have to wait until we get back.

I´ll try to get on again and update you about our adventures down here. Hope everyone is doing alright!

Trip to Mexico

Next wednesday July 9th Benjamin and I will board a plane en route to Cancun and then will travel via car to Merida & Calkini to visit my family. Brad will not be joining us on this trip so we will be away from "daddy" for 3 weeks, yes 3 weeks! Not only is Brad not liking the idea of us being away for so long but also Abuela Domi and Gpa & Gma Marshall. It's not so much me being away but Benjamin, they don't care about me anymore (hahaha!).

I'm excited for this trip but I'm also nervous for the plane ride as this will be Benjamin's 1st time on a plane and I will be alone and pregnant taking care of a 1 year old. I'm scared he's going to start crying and sure that I will cry with him also (darn hormones!).

I will try to keep you updated on the happenings of our trip and hopefully I can upload pictures but if I don't, please don't be mad, when I'm down there I try to do as much stuff as possible (most of the time that means eating whatever/wherever I can).

After of a long time and a lot of paperwork I finally own a US Passport. The fam surprised with a dinner to celebrate this accomplisment. I'm so grateful for their support and their love!

Benjamin and Brad are so alike. They have fun playing together and even though sometimes their play style is not acceptable by my standards (haha!) I love watching them spend time together. We're both learning so much as parents and still have so much more to learn and struggle through. I love my family and can hardly wait for our new addition.

Benjamin had his 1st birthday party on May 17th out on the backyard of his grandparents home. I decided to do a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme since everytime that show comes on he stops and watches Mickey. I assumed (since he can't really tell me) that it was his favorite character. Everything turned out good, he seemed to have fun and everyone seemed to enjoy the party eventhough it was almost 100 degrees outside. I loved the cake and the HUGE pinata (didn't know it was going to be that big!). I cannot believe he's now ONE and continues to grow as the minutes go by...ay, ay, ay! pretty soon I'm going to be at his High School graduation. Nooooo!

Benjamin tuvo su 1era fiesta el pasado 17 de Mayo en el patio de la casa de sus abuelitos. Decidi decorar con cosas de Mickey ya que cada vez que esta viendo su caricatura se emociona mucho y pues entendi (puesto q el no me puede decir nada) que eso es lo que mas le gusta ahorita. Todo salio bien, creo que se divirtio y todos se la pasaron bien, aun con el caloron que estaba haciendo. Me encanto el pastel y la pinata (no sabia que iba a estar tan grande). No puedo creer que grande esta y que sigue creciendo minuto a minuto. Ay, ay, ay! dentro de poco voy a estar en su graduacion de prepa...nooooooooooo!

Benjamin's 1st swimming lesson / 1era clase de natacion

We decided to enroll Benjamin in a swimming lesson not knowing how much he would love it. The minute he got in the water he had the biggest grin on his face, he's so cute. Here are a few pics and a video of his swimming skills. He has graduated from his 1st stage lesson and we're now moving to his 2nd stage, hopefully by the end of this session he is kicking on his own. We're so proud of him!

For those that haven't noticed the News Flash column to the right, here it is... Yes! I'm pregnant again!! I am 16 weeks today. It was a shock to me when I found out because as always you start making plans and that's not what it's supposed to be; but, Brad was soooo excited and reassured me that everything would work out. I am excited and nervous at the same, Benjamin is a hand full and I can just imagine how it is going to be with 2 kids...oh my gosh, 2 kids!! Yeah shocking!

But anyway, I am due December 2nd but it could come a week earlier according to the doctor. I am feeling good, have had good and bad days but I'm doing a lot better than my last pregnancy. I'll try to keep you posted as the months go by.

Para que aquellos que no esten enterados o no hayan notado mi columna de noticias, aqui les va...Si! Estoy embarazada otra vez!! Que loca, no? Tengo ya 16 semanas (4 meses). Fue una noticia esperada e inesperada, yo la verdad llore pero Brad me aseguro que todo estaba bien y que todo iba a salir bien. Estoy nerviosa y a la vez emocionada, Benjamin me trae loca y ya me imagino como voy a estar con 2 chamaquitos..ay, ay, ay, 2 chamaquitos!!

En fin, la fecha de nacimiento es el 2 de Diciembre pero puede llegar 1 semana antes segun mi doc. Me siento bien, he tenido buenos y malos dias pero me ha ido mucho mejor que con Benjamin. Tratare de mantenerlos al tanto conforme pasen los meses...

I know, I know...it's been a while since I posted something on here but believe me, life around here has been pretty hectic. We had our Arb family reunion mid-january, then I ended up at the hospital for gall bladder problems, had my birthday, valentine's day and then Grandpa Ashdown passed away so we headed up to Cedar City for the funeral.

The crazy life continues for the next 2 months with visitors from Mexico, the Clark County Fair, Loren's graduation from the University of Utah and Benjamin's 1st birthday party....YES! he will be ONE in just three months, oh my gosh! time has sure gone by rather fast. So I promise that as soon as I can slip away I will post new pics and videos of our life (that takes more time than just typing).

This Christmas was a very casual for our family but we enjoyed each other's company and loved the chance we had to be together.
I didn't ask for anything at all this year, well, I wanted a new car which I got but that was a family gift. Personally I didn't want anything but my sweet husband went ahead and got me a red Nintento DS Lite & a game which I had mentioned once or twice that I liked them and wanted one but never said I really, really want it but I got it and I'm loving it. But, that wasn't my favorite thing...with the gift came a letter that meant much more than anything else and I wanted to share it with you all...

TO MY LOVELY WIFE
As I sit here surrounded by concrete walls and doors controlled by an operator for security purposes, it's hard to be in the "Christmas Mood". It has, however, given me plenty of time to reflect on the season.
What makes Christmas so special? Is it the gift exchange or all the pretty decorations? The elaborate meals, the seasonal songs? Or is it the family traditions that have been passed on from year to year.
Of course the logical answer is that we're celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. And although He is the "reason for the season" I like to think that there's more to it all than just gathering around the nativity scene to remember that blessed night when the King of Kings was born. He entered this world in a very humbling atmosphere, but He was surrounded by His family. And that's what I think makes this season so special. Gathering together as a family.
Just as He was surrounded by those who loved Him, we join together with our loved ones. This year is especially wonderful for me. Not only do I get to enjoy another year with you by my side, but I also get to watch as our son marvels at the lights and brightly colored packages. And just as Mary and Joseph gathered around their little one many years ago, you and I can share this special moment together. And that is the greatest gift I could ever receive. I love you more than I could ever let you know. Thank you for being so patient with me as I grow. I know I'm not perfect, but with your help I'll get there some day. I love you Yiviani and wish you the merriest of Christmases and I look forward to spending another year with you.

Benjamin is almost 8 months now and we cannot believe how fast time has gone by. I am so thankful that I've been able to stay home with him to watch him grow everyday. I enjoy seeing how he's becoming such a little boy; I wish time would stop and I could hold him in my arms forever but I know that's not possible. For now, I will cherish every second that I have with him and hope that whatever he learns now helps him become a great man.

Benjamin esta por cumplir 8 meses y no podemos creer que rapido ha pasado el tiempo. Estoy tan agradecida de la oportunidad que tengo de quedarme con el y poder verlo crecer dia a dia. Me encanta ver como va convirtiendose en un niño; desearia que el tiempo se detuviera y lo pudiera tener en mis brazos por siempre pero se que eso no es posible. Uncle Loren had given Benjamin his own Harley bike a while back but we just had not put it together until now, I am sure that once Benjamin learns how to get on and off the bike he's going to be on it all day long.

It's true that when your kids start crawling you wish they could stay in one place like they used to before they mastered such skill. He follows us everywhere we go, it's crazy! Hopefully in the future he not only plays with the laundry but also helps me with the laundry.

There's nothing better to do than to go out on the wheelers during a rainy day...yep, that's Brad's motto and of course I get to be the camera lady. (No hay nada mejor que hacer que ir a andar en las motos en un dia lluvioso, ese es el lema de Brad).

Brad loves to go out and get the wheeler as muddy as possible so he likes to search for the best possible spots. (A Brad le encanta andar en la moto cuando esta lloviendo y por supuesto que le gusta encontrar el lugar con mas agua y lodo que pueda encontrar.)

I was trying to get a good picture of him going through the mud but of course Gary wouldn't stop, he also wanted to go through the water; so, this is the best video I could get. (Traté de tomar el mejor video que pude pero como mi piloto tambien queria andar en el lodo esta fue la mejor tomada).

After Brad had too much fun on the mud, we had to tow him home. Thirty minutes of fun and 2 hours of cleaning...yay! (Despues de que Brad se divirtio lo tuvimos que llevarlo nosotros a la casa puesto que la moto dejo de funcionar. Treinta minutos de diversión y 2 horas para limpiar las motos).

I let Benjamin spend a lot of time on his tummy to strengthen his neck and back and to help him explore positions with his body. He is learning more and more as the days go by. He kinda pulls himself with his elbows, reaches out for toys that are out of his reach and can even put all his weight on his arms and toes with his body completely off the floor.

Benjamin se la pasa mucho tiempo en el suelo puesto que necesita fortalecer su cuello y espalda y asi aprende mas sobre su cuerpo y como utilizarlo. Esta aprendiendo mas y mas cada dia. A veces detiene todo su cuerpo como si estuviera haciendo una lagartija y se queda ahi como por 10 segundos. Poco a poco...empezara a gatear.

This is why it's good to have a camera handy and why I'd rather stay home and watch him do all these things than miss them all. Brad actually caught this on camera as I had run out to the store with my mom, I'm glad he did! Apparently Benjamin is trying to stand up but is unsuccesful, I'm sure it won't be long and then I'm going to have to keep all tables free of stuff, i.e. the remotes and magazines.

Es por esta razon que es bueno tener la camara a la mano y por lo cual decidi dejar de trabajar para asi no perderme de lo que empieza a hacer Benjamin. Brad fue el que tomo esta pelicula puesto que yo habia salido a la tienda con mi mama, que bueno que lo grabo! Benjamin esta tratando de pararse pero no lo logra, se que no tardara en hacerlo y es ahi donde tendre que mantener las mesas vacias.

Halloween 2007

For his 1st year Benjamin was a pirate. We actually got the costume as a gift from a lady at Brad's work. My mom drew a mustache but of course that rubbed off right away. All I had to do was add a little more to his theme so I decided to sort of decorate his stroller with the help of Grandma & Grandpa Marshall. Vikki printed a few pics off her PC and we just taped them to the stroller. He had a ship's wheel, pirate flag and an anchor, it turned out pretty cute. We decided to go over to the trunk-or-treat at the church for a bit until Brad got home from work. They had a contest there, which I didn't know about, so I decided to enter him and he got 3rd place...yay for Benjamin!! To me he looked sooooo cute and could've gotten 1st place (Yes, I am being blinded my a mother's love, haha!). The other two were pretty good costumes, maybe next year he'll take 1st. After that we went home to pick up dad and headed to a couple of friend's houses and then went to a neighborhood so Jairo and Santiago (I was watching them for a night) could go knock on doors. Brad took them around to get the candy they wanted; it was good practice for the both of us as we were parents of 3 for a night.

Para su 1er Halloween disfrace a Benjamin de pirata ya que una compañera de trabajo de Brad nos habia regalado el disfraz asi que solo lo que tuve que hacer fue añadirle al tema. Con la ayuda de sus abuelos Domi, Vikki & Gary decoramos su carreola como barco pirata, no se veia mal. Aqui ahora acostumbran a reunirse en lugares y adornar los carros para que ahi puedan pedir Halloween los niños asi que fuimos un ratito ahi. Cuando llegamos estaban anunciando que iban a tener un concurso de disfraces asi que lleve a Benjamin a que concursara y gano el 3er lugar...yupi!!! Quien quita y el proximo año gane el 1er lugar ;) Despues de ahi fuimos a buscar a Brad para poder llevar a los otros 2 niños que estaba cuidando a que fueran a pedir Halloween a algunas casas, Benjamin por supuesto se quedo dormido en el carro y ya no pudo andar con Brad y los niños. Tuve la oportunidad de ser madre de 3 por una noche, buena practica para nuestros futuros hijos.

Rolling over / Aprendiendo a voltearme

Benjamin has learned to roll over. Now I have to watch him because he can start on one side and end up way on the other side in just a matter of seconds. Sometimes is funny to watch him roll from one side to the other over and over again and that's how he moves. He's trying to sit up but hasn't accomplished that task, I'm sure it won't be long. Not sure if I'm ready for him to start crawling and knowing him I'm sure I'm going to be chasing him all over the place...gotta get in shape.

Benjamin ha aprendido a voltearse. Ahora tengo que estar al pendiente de el porque lo pongo en un lado y termina del otro en segundos. A veces es chistoso verlo voltearse de un lado al otro una y otra vez de tal manera que logra transladarse de una esquina a la otra. Esta intentando sentarse pero aun no lo ha logrado, esto segura que no tarda en hacerlo. No se si estoy lista para que empieze a gatear y conociendolo se que me va a traer correteandolo por todas partes... tengo que ponerme en forma.

We decided to try once more and see if Benjamin will finally figure out his jumper...well, he did! He seems to like but we gotta be careful since the doorway is not that wide and he could hit his little head but he does really well while on it.

Decidimos intentar una vez para ver si Benjamin por fin le agarraba la onda a su brinca, brinca y por fin pudo. Parece gustarle pero tenemos que tener cuidado puesto que la puerta no esta muy ancha y pues puede pegarse pero aun asi el se divierte.

Grandpa managed to sneak out with Benjamin and take him out on a ride just around the house. Ben seemed to like it, I'm hoping that by next spring we're able to get in on the wheeler more often.

Benjamin has started to eat pureed fruits and veggies. Even though he makes a big mess he's doing good. He has tried bananas, applesauce, pear, carrots and his fave squash. He is a little, well a lot, impatient and just wants his bottle more than anything else so we're working on it. I'm sure that with time he will learn that he needs to eat first and then he will get his bottle.

Benjamin ya empezó a comer pures de fruta y verduras. A pesar de que hace toda una baticion ha estado comiendo bien. Ya ha comido platanitos, manzana, pera, zanahoria y calabazita. Es un poquito, bueno, muy impaciente y solamente quiere tomar su mamila mas que nada asi que estamos aprendiendo que primero come y luego le doy la mamila aunque a veces es tanta la desesperacion que tengo que darme la mamila y luego la comida...con tiempo aprenderá!

Time for a bath...and a nap! / Baño...y siesta!

Ben usually takes his longest nap from 6:30 - 9:00 pm. I wake him up to bathe him but many times he continues his nap while we are bathing him. He's is so adorable, how I wish he could stay like this forever but I know time will fly and in the blink of an eye I will be sending him off on a mission and on the next blink he will be married. Oh my gosh! Until then we just enjoy every minute we have with him and thank God for sending him to us.

Por lo regular Benjamin duerme su siesta mas larga de 6:30 - 9:00 pm. Siempre lo despierto para bañarlo pero algunas veces continua su siesta mientras lo baño. Como adoro a mi niño, me encantaria que se quedara asi chiquito pero se que en un abrir y cerrar de ojos lo voy a ver casarse y luego con sus propios hijos. Por lo pronto estamos disfrutanto cada minuto con el y le damos gracias a Dios por enviarlo a nuestra vida.

Benjamin's 1st haircut

Benjamin got his 1st haircut about 3 weeks ago. He had so much hair on his little head that he looked like a brand new baby after it was all gone. Daddy did such a good job on making him look just like mini-Brad. He wanted to leave a mohawk, but of course, mommy didn't let him...maybe later! :)

Benjamin recibio su primer corte de pelo hace como 3 semanas. Despues de haberle cortado el pelo era irreconocible ya que nos habiamos acostumbrado a su cabezita llena de pelo. Brad queria dejarle el pelo estilo "punk" pero no lo deje, quizas para la proxima.

It's amazing how babies can look so much like their parents...Benjamin has so many of Brad's features but he does have my smile (and impatience, cranky attitude, etc...according to Brad).

Es increible lo mucho que los bebes pueden parecerse a sus padres...Benjamin tiene tantas caracteristicas fisicas de Brad y afortunadamente saco mi sonrisa (y segun Brad mi impacienciea y mal humor...jajaja)

It seems that Ben is finally understanding the reaction he should give when being tickled. He used to only stare at you probably thinking, "What is going on?" He is growing so fast and starting to vocalize more and more everyday. I can hardly wait to hear his 1st word which I hope is Mama.
